"い。。。いったい" (or with kanji, "い。。。一体") is me guessing the raw text for "what on earth just happened". If my guess is correct, I'd expect the errant い to be a case of the character starting to say the sentence, halting, and restarting the attempt (i.e. something along the lines of "Wh... what on earth just happened?")
