From what I can tell, usually in manga there's a concept called "heaven". Whoever died goes there and the appearance of it changes from person to person( usually a place of comfort and bliss for the aforementioned person ). Not only that but the person who is associated with that place also appear, to keep the person company. In Ichika's case, it's the teacher office with him, listening and exchanging thoughts from an old lesson.
