Maybe it's because I only came back to this manga after a long time not reading it, and haven't re-read the first 7 or so chapters, but why does he have the feeling Raika will leave him before he grows old?

I'm not entirely sure, I don't think I've missed something in translation (though it's possible), but maybe it's something to do with Shinto folklore that the author assumes the Japanese reader might know themselves.
