So, she and that guy never became a couple in the future, if I understood correctly?

Yep, the original her (just like Takae) never viewed him in a romantic way and he also noticed the change in personality and tried to "move on“.

Ty for the TL, I do like and did enjoy the main story. This one just wasn‘t it.

I did read the title but this wasn‘t what I expected at all.
The main series had Takeru appear fleetingly like 4 times across 70 chapters and then he only came up in tandem with his classmates in 2 panels.
He truly had no deeper connection with Takae at all when compared to the other kids. This spin-off kinda tries to retcon it but it just doesn‘t stick.
Their dynamic is still her treating him like a slightly annoyed adult keeping a really annoying and clingy child on a pole.

Like, it is clear that she had 0,00% of romantic feelings towards him, no need to tell me.
I just don‘t think it would be her (actual) character to lie to him like she did here and to fuel his delusions to "protect“ him after unwillingly involving him.
Dude clearly has issues of his own and she knew.. this just ended up her making it worse evident in how he still couldn‘t let it go after all these years.

So, does spin-off kinda expand on and continue the original manga's message that people shouldn't obsess over past or potential relationships, instead accepting them as warm, bittersweet memories and moving on? Kinda is reminiscent of Nagi no Asukara with the message that people shouldn't be afraid of unrequited feelings, instead appreciating the experience of love.

This is way too mature of an ending even when the original series made it clear it wasn't kidding around with how it views relationships. Very, very good.

I appreciate this as an epilogue of the series, not needed but interesting to read. I didn't expect her to share the journal, but that gave him some closure to move on fully I think. Also allowed him to process grief that is close to losing someone you once knew. Really appreciate the TLs.

Thank you so much for translating this!

Takeru was no small part in Marika's life in the original work, even though it's mostly Takae. But Takae, her family and Takeru were really helping both Marika and her mother in their perspective lives too. Everyone got their resolves at the end of the original work, but Takeru. So this was such a nice ending and good intentions from the author.

And thank you for your recommendation at the end. I'll check it out :D
