I actually like the princess the most thus far. Mostly because she seems decisive and not dumb, even if "fight or be executed" seems extreme from someone not in her circumstances (under implied threat of annihilation of a supreme malevolent force).

MC did spend three days in the, as he referenced it, "lap of luxury" and is now acting like he's completely innocent in not immediately coming clean to the princess.
He definitely has more than two options (like "simply leave", for one thing), but all it would take is a Royal Decree with his likeness sent out throughout the kingdom and he'd have a hard time evading everyone after him.
Mostly because he doesn't know the first thing about this world (since there's zero indication he set foot out of the palace in those three days), and that's supremely dangerous even for someone prepared, and not some veritable kid with nothing but a sword and his apparent inability to access his circumstances (thought it was some weird LARPing prank for far too long, even in the face of literal teleportation).
But also, just because his sword can cut rifts in space and send him elsewhere, we've seen twice that he can't control it. What's to stop him being dumped in an ocean, or from up in the sky, or into a nest of monsters? He'd have to learn to control it 'on the fly' whilst fleeing everyone after him, so.
