@StrabeDevicles Your neck can crack slightly and you can survive, just depends in what way. It could be that the pressure caused some of her vertebrae to slightly separate, causing the cracking sound. Or, in the worst case, he could have fractured some of her neck bones without completely breaking her neck. Just means that until she has had time to heal she's going to be in a fragile state, and depending on how bad the damage actually is she could very well be partially paralyzed, even if only for a short time. As for why she lost consciousness, it could be due to shock. She heard and felt the crack, and it was likely very painful, so the shock of the situation could very well be enough too make her pass out.

Also, have you never cracked your own neck and heard an audible cracking noise? Or rather, have you never heard someone else crack their own neck? Shit can be real loud yet do no damage to the actual neck whatsoever. Same can be said for other parts of the body, such as the spine and shoulders.

@StrabeDevicles Svelandria is right, you can survive fracturing your neck. It's actually not that uncommon. I work as a radiographer and we have patients with fractures in their cervical spine from time to time. I once had a patient that fractured two vertebrae and a transverse process, he was unconscious when he came in but survived and when he came back for check-ups he could walk.

Not all fractures are equal, either (for any type of bone really). Sometimes it's a barely visible line, sometimes it's practically shattered into tiny pieces. Sometimes you can hear a crack when you hurt yourself and it can hurt like hell but not be a fracture after all.
