As someone who was going to cons pretty regularly during the period this happened, it was pretty divisive and also hilarious. ADV was kind of a train wreck of a company - the general consensus among folks I knew (including a few of the Texas-based American VAs that were active at that time) seemed to be that when they were on they were brilliant, and when they weren't they sucked. No great surprise they imploded a couple years after this.
