A series actually explaining why someone's hair is longer after the switch?! And it actually makes sense?

This author is one of a kind.

(Though it does suck not to be able to cut it, short hair is cute. Maybe if Keisuke's perception of what a "girl" is changes it might be possible.)

I think not all girls like long hair, there are also girls who like to have short hair, girls prefer to put in the effort to become what they want to be rather than just being a prety girl, that why their hair is important from them not because it's long

Mangadex lists this as "Chapter 6.5" because of the order of release, but it's not set between chapters 6 & 7, hence it's an unnumbered "bonus chapter" on Ciao+. I figure it could be any time between when Uesugi found out they can't make a second wish (end of chapter 2) and the mall visit the next Saturday (chapter 4). If you want to be real mean, image this happening right after the former, when Uesugi was still expecting to keep attending school as a boy.

The author retweeted a piece of fanart based on this chapter. I think she's saying the poster is her husband.

Though it does suck not to be able to cut it, short hair is cute.
Short hair is cute, but the bigger problem is how this kneecaps Uesugi's ability to pass as a boy. Funny that the hair change is a way for the reader to differentiate Keisuke and Kei-chan, regardless of clothing, but quite detrimental for the character. Especially when being really androgynous indirectly lead to Uesugi becoming a girl!

Maybe if Keisuke's perception of what a "girl" is changes it might be possible.

I don't see this as Uesugi being Hank Hill so close-minded as to think girls having short hair is wrong. For one thing, Keisuke's "boy" hairstyle is barely shorter than his mom's hair. I think this specific hairdo was undone because it is (by intent) masculine to Uesugi. In fact, the hair didn't grow back as Eito was cutting, only when Uesugi saw it made them "look like a boy."

Funny idea how I think this could work: Imagine Keisuke's big sister got a haircut like her sibling used to have. Keisuke still doesn't understand what Tobi said, but guesses she can do something Eito couldn't. After nee-chan cuts it (for some exhorbitant price/favor), the hair stays but only because Keisuke was still wearing a girl's school uniform. As soon as Keisuke changes into boy clothes, the hair changes back again.

Of course, since this a "bonus" chapter, I don't expect the hair thing to come up again.

it was a godsend that the pun was able to be adapted this well.:02:
I'm sure there were a few hairy moments as they wrestled with how best to style the translation.

I think it's simple: Uesugi's in love with Noel, Noel has long hair, so to him subconsciously girl = long hair. If so, it'll probably make it difficult for his perception of what's a girl to change.

Yeah, but like I said above I think what's going on here is that Uesugi's feelings for Noel as a boy have led to him subconsciously associating long hair like she has with what a girl is.
IF THEY PLAY THIS RIGHT THEY HAVE ACCESS TO INFINITE HAIR NOW
That would be a real boon for donating hair to make wigs for people with cancer. Uesugi could quickly become the world leader in hair donations! (In a week if he tries hard enough.)

I think this is a story element that we're not meant to think too hard about... because it goes to some weird places if you do. Like if Uesugi's hair is locked in some kind of stasis because of their ideal of a what a girl is, how much more could be? Do they not ever get dirty or need to care for that hair? Will they not be able to age because that'd mean becoming a woman rather than a girl? And yeah, the infinite hair exploit.

In the end I think it's just a cute chapter meant to explain why Uesugi's hair is always going to be long and an excuse to put out some real knee-slapping puns.

You know, Eito even says outright that Keisuke hasn't really changed that much - Keisuke probably could have just gotten a haircut and most of the school would be none the wiser.
Well, so much for that plan. Interesting that it seems to be targeted specifically at attempts to "look like a boy" - it's not that Keisuke can't have short hair, it's that they must look "obviously" female, no matter what.

Fun fact, they could probably sell that amout of hair for about 500usd on the lower end, Usugi be making bank rn (assuming the hair isn't magical and dissipates after some time of not being attached to the body)
