With the whole world getting buggified or squidified, seems like planet of the apes ending or maybe theyll just walk into the ocean or weird fog and never returned (maybe?), dropping off dead mysteriously is on the table too.
so, we're left on a cliffhanger: are these human villagers trying to do their lynching more ethically, or are they actually uichi? I'm guessing human, some things just don't add up:
the march:
the banging of the gongs, the orderliness of the procession, is distinctly weird to me.
lIke, this is the kind of thing you'd find in a lot of ceremonies in SE Asia where bad spirits / monsters are scared away
for one how do you get that many voluntarily self-identifying uichi to spontaneously before midday? a lot of these people are kinda acting like they're ridealongs
page 161 - "you too ... were an uichi?" tenuous but the only other major use of ellipses in this section is when our protagonist lies ("Yuka Kanetani").
the clinic
I mean ok I guess the author is trying really hard to make it obvious that this situation doesn't make sense, uichi have been around for like... what? two days? treatment?
and for that matter, human spies? this group leader has been shouting out her plans into the forest and she's worried about opsec?
but I do kinda like her funnelling strategy here: "we are all uichi" -> "let's help each other" -> "let's get treatment" -> "let's go into town" -> "let's go to this particular clinic" -> "let's make sure you're not a human spy" -> "let's scan you with x-rays" - this is every charity telemarketing phone script but combined with group pressure. like, there's no obvious point where you can back out without declaring to everyone "actually I don't want treatment / actually I'm a human spy"
when I saw the flies, I was like "yeah maybe those are from the uichi corpses piling up in the back"
but hey, maybe the next chapter won't have murder.
Hey there!
1. Yes, it's the literal translation.
2. No, the raws are currently up to Volume 3 (which was just released). I don't have a definite schedule tbh. I rotate between series, and depending on my enthusiasm and reader interest, I may update this series faster. I just finished Vol. 1, and based on Vol. 2 raws, things are getting a lot more interesting, so I might update this quickly like the others. Thanks for your patience!
