This is dumb and the MC is a dumbass.
Why not stay with the sister? Because she'll be endangered... by what? They made him too overpowered to be concerned with accidentally revealing his "monster form" so the only reason that would happen outside of his control is if he was an idiot with it. And not only that, he can literally disguise himself as other people, so what would it even matter?
And also, why was he trying to come up with a lie as to why he's been missing? The truth is a pretty goddamn good excuse for being off the map. The sister would've known about the skill he had that brings him back to life, so just ELABORATE on that shit. You lose nothing by telling her exactly what's going on, instead of being edgy and then breaking her heart for no reason.
Now that he's evolved into a Doppelganger, there's absolutely no reason for him to be going "lone-wolf" aside from the writer wanting him to be an edge-lord protagonist.
