The only thing I don't like about this is that if someone interesting happens, the next chapter has nothing to do with it/ never brings it up 😔

(I'm not talking about the chapter before this one..)

For me personally, I don’t think anything has topped the visceral fear of the meat train.
Some of the two page spreads were pretty good too, like the thing in the woods when they were escaping with the soldiers.

I think the cow woman is somehow symbolic of Sorawo's mother.
The previous Kudan was her father so the other side following up another Kudan (albeit with a weird face) with a cow woman really felt like her mum to me.
So now the Sorawo Kudan appeared I think it's clear the other side has found Sorawo's rich vein of cult trauma.

the posture of the cow woman and the dog made me think of the plaster casts in pompeii (the lady sprawled on the ground and her dog attentively beside her). plastic, then glass. is it snow that's falling, or ash? interesting development from the mannequins.

are they moving in time rather than space now? that's what's unique about 'that side'. stand still and the danger is passive. the lure is objectivity: just view it again, take a closer look, see it from another angle - all of the things we instinctively do to verify safety are now vectors of attack.

this isn't just a campside story, because narrative progression itself is a form of motion.

How is that remotely relevant
If anything that part makes it less scary because it makes the monsters predictable
Point is that the entire series is about them getting up close with "dumb campfire stories" so talking about it now seems a bit late. Either you get why these things might be scary when they happen to you in person or you don't. And this far in the series one could expect that you either like this aspect of this series or at least tolerate it, especially considering how prominently it's featured throughout the entire story

It's almost as if the entire series was based on urban legends becoming real
Well... Yeah... That's EXACTLY what it is. Sorawo's literally said that multiple times... Well, "ghost stories", but for all intents and purposes... same thing....

Well, that’s terrifying.

Well, they’re awkwardly half-dating, like proper lesbians.
Yeah, we're only to the end of LN vol 4, when they get to Vol 8, you'll finally get this. But yeah, this is the best LN to manga adaptation I've ever seen. It's like they're using the LN as a script and just adding pictures to everything that's there and not skipping anything, so we'll DEFINITELY get to the "good" chapter (26 in vol 8), so just enjoy the ride.

A little recap from the manga chapters 19 and 67: the cow woman spoke with the voice of Sorawo's grandmother, and even said "you take after your mother". Her father and grandmother fell in with the cult after her mother passed away, so her mother is not responsible for Sorawo's trauma resulting from the cult. It was the Red Person Sorawo met in her dream that she compared to her mother in that moment.

Down to my bones, I still don't understand why they chose a rice planter as their vehicle.

The AP-1 is actually a "tobacco multipurpose harvester", which like basically all products that appear in Otherside Picnic is real and referenced under its real life name. It costs about 2 million yen or $13k.

"If this thing isn't off my doorstep three days from now, I'm going to harvest the grass in Shakujii Park, roll cigarettes with it, and force you to smoke them. Now hurry up and find a gate!" - Kozakura, manga ch. 38
