Love translator notes that give the translator's POV! Also appreciate the other translator too and hope you all work something out.

I wonder if castigate might be a good word b/c it has a somewhat harsh connotation?
Also feel like I need to reread this chapter a few times to really get it but also it's capturing a codependency spiral so well.

HOLY SHIT THE TL NOTE AT THE END
Sexual violence and gender discrimination are way too common it's really fucking terrible why can't people just be normal...
After god not being serialized makes sense i'm glad she stopped it since the publishers were involved in hiding a fucking child rapist

She wants to rebuild the military?? oh no...
i knew that the US basically has control over japan or at least a huge amount of control over its actions and the emperors dont do much anymore ever since ww2 i think? but damn i hope this wasn't something brought on by the US cuz that'd be really bad.

If a bunch of nations both allird and not allied with the US have started strengthening their militaries then ww3 might actually be happening soon...

i should read a lot more about this... Also hope you're able to work with the previous scanlation team too since i liked their work and also like yours!

unrelated but this is handwritten?? I can barely tell how do you have such nice handwriting?

Thanks for reading! I also hope we can work something out ^^

Ooh castigate! That’s a good one… I discussed it with my friend (whose name was redacted in the credits lol) and they suggested berate, which I liked, so I edited the page. 罵倒 is a hard word because I wanted the English to flow naturally in that situation but “verbal abuse” (the literal translation) sounds a little too serious.

chapter 17 is even better after chapter 27! I hope we can get all that translated for everyone :)

I’m so glad the handwriting worked!! I was kind of nervous about it but laziness (and the fact that my computer is broken) won so here we are.

Re: mangaone, yeah…. This issue is endemic to the publishing industry (see author of Rurouni Kenshin), but it only flourishes there because it's endemic to society. People are talking about "rehabilitation to society", but there is no real rehabilitation to society for someone like that when the society itself condones, even encourages, misogynist violence. When the perpetrator doesn't experience any societal consequences, and is even helped to prey on more people. It's somewhat encouraging to see such major, public pushback with this incident (though I'm not holding my breath about actual change), because society itself needs to condemn misogyny and misogynist violence before legal systems can take meaningful action.

Re: Takaichi… to give an incredibly simplified account of Japan's entanglement with the USA. In the 1800s, when Europe was brutally imperializing Asia, Japan got very scared the same thing would happen to it. Then the American navy arrived and forced Japan to enter unfair treaties that destroyed its economy (it is worth noting that this was nowhere near the brutality India, China, the Philippines, etc were enduring— Japan was never taken over and SETTLED by the USA). After this, Japan, led by the emperor, decided that to prevent the same from happening to them, THEY would have to become an empire like the european nations and take over East Asia themselves.

So they did. But Imperial Japan was incredibly, incredibly brutal and racist to the people it took over. It committed horrific war crimes upon war crimes. (This in no way excuses American brutality in defeating Japan). But shortly after Japan was defeated by the USA, China was taken over by the communist PRC, so the USA wanted a strong ally near China to balance against them. Thus, instead of letting the population feel guilt for the horrible things it had done and let happen like they purposefully did in Germany, the USA decided to try to get the population to forget the war itself so they could use war criminals in the former Japanese military to help balance against China. This is also why there are so many USA military bases in Japan.

What has ended up happening is, because there is no public consciousness of Japan's war crimes in the war, just the fact that they lost, there is an undercurrent of "we lost because we're weak, it wasn't good that we lost, we should get strong again so China/Korea cant trample on us anymore, so we can stand shoulder to shoulder with the USA". That's the undercurrent that helped Takaichi win, and that's the undercurrent that supports her racism, her ageism, her anti-immigration stances, her desire to rebuild the military, her support for Trump's military interventions, etc.

My apologies, that got really long! But even at this length, this explanation is super reductive and barely scratches the surface of these issues. It's a gross simplification. Still, I hope it can serve as an introduction for further research!

best, RSK

She's one of that new wave of "social media elected country leaders" so partially yes, but she herself says her big inspiration is Margaret Thatcher so you can also blame the UK if you really want to
How does someone who's inspiration is literally the devil win?

It works really well so there wasnt a need to be worried lol
If you do end up posting more and it is an issue we (readers) could always just post screenshots of the parts that were hard to read

There's a lot of societal pushback but theres always people in high places that did similar things that'll help their friends/fellow assholes out of those situations (especially if money's involved). There does need to be more pushback tho and a lot more accountability for people in high positions in companies/governments to better prevent shit like that from happening.

I'll make sure to read up more on this o7
its always somewhat interesting (ignoring how fucked up, sad and aggravating it is as well) to see how these sorts of ultra militaristic, anti immigrant (which is imo fueled mostly through racism and xenophobia) regimes start to form.
