This manga ends on such an unsatisfactory note, I thought it had been cancelled. I read on a forum somewhere that it's an adaption of only the first half of a novel, so we must be only reading part of the story. I guess I'll have to find a translation of the novel somewhere.

I don't really find Hirosue all that compelling; I think we could have had more panels that conveys his thoughts more, as his character doesn't express himself well. Maybe he would be more interesting to read about in novel format.

Agreed! Hirosue comes off as so selfish and needlessly cruel, the way he acts as though he's been so wronged and refuses to even see the torment that he's putting Matsuoka through makes him unlikeable, even though at first I understood his shock at the reveal.
