Liking the idealized version of someone inside your head is a flaw that lot of people have at first. After getting to know the person though, it's possible to find out who they really are, and after that, people have to decide if they like that real version.
Go through that a couple times, and a person will be able to compare and contrast how multiple people really are vs. how they present themselves or seem at first.
Only when both people know each other as they truly are (honestly) and still like each other can a long term relationship happen. It's why crushes on people can be such a deceptive thing, and when your crush likes you back and you start getting to know them, you can find out that you don't actually like the real them.
The opposite can happen, where the more you get to know someone you thought was bland at first, the more you realize they're actually amazing.
