So, Soedol survived. Is he gonna be an antagonist in the sequel (which is now no secret, as we've released the first chapter)?
Easy Squeezy and Awls made it alive! \o/ I hope to see them in the future, they're hilarious.
Jo Heon's backstory and life lesson to Jiyong is the most forced part of this series. Sure, I get in the average Korean mind South America is a hellhole. They still think it's all like Colombia in the 80s or Argentina in the 70s. In truth, their own dictatorship was way more violent than South American ones, and their corruption scandals are just as crazy. Eight Fairies? Seriously?
Yes, South American countries are violent, but it's localised criminality connected to poverty, not that kind of "gunning down random people on countryside roads" they pictured. In terms of institutional stability, Korea shouldn't be throwing stones, all their presidents post-redemocratisation have been tried for corruption, with good reason and without.
And isn't it
weird that the fictional South American country is good enough to send a girl to learn piano, but also a crime-ridden anarchy?
I guess Africa and the Middle East were too cliché. Oh well. At least it's clear from other series that Koreans seem to think even European and North American countries are violence-prone.
Also, Jo Heon's thought is muddled as always. After all that happened, after seeing how Seon-uk died, he still thinks what he's protecting is order? That Jiyong's actions could bring about anarchy? He was trying to kill Jiyong and score PR points for the police in the beginning, undermining an investigation and all. He ought to get off his high horse.
Well, our translator showed me this when we discussed it:

In an aside, I'm not too happy with the revelation that Professor Lee had been protecting Jiyong from behind the scenes, if that's what the series is implying. I see no reason why he'd go that far for a random police academy cadet, even if it's the best student. I don't get why they're all forgiving him and offering him mentorship and guidance. It made more sense when Jiyong played a cat-and-mouse game with the authorities.
Well, I guess the stage is being set-up for the Vigilante to be at the core of some sort of informal unit to suppress criminals too powerful to jail, like the VIP here. And it seems he's gonna be very close around Jiyong, even being with him at the graduation photo.
Yeongji seems to be keen on settling things with Jiyong in the bed, and not mincing words about it. Way to go, girl, I said before: it's great that Jiyong isn't cockblocked like other protagonists like him.
Thanks everyone for reading, and hope to see you all in Part 2!
