Yep. ONT starts with a lack of subtlety. It goes far very fast with Chie almost got an orgasm by being boobs palpated by Ai. Not to mention the drawing witch is less good than today.
But it's not specific to ONT. I think, it's ma theory, that it's specific of the pre-release system of Japan. The manga need to get quickly to the arguments (the case ? the point ?). The manga have to make a contract (a deal) with the reader : in this manga you will see panties, love stories, and panties again, and sometimes boobs and nipples. If it's start to slowly, the risk is we pass to another manga, because it is published chapter by chapter. And then, when the contract is sealed and we begin to see all the richness wich goes far beyond the panties (even if we still love the panties, of course), then the rythm start to slow and become more profound.
Remember how Dragon Ball starts : after just few chapters, Kame Sennin just destroyed the moon (oh sorry, it was a spoiler), and that is not relevant regarding the scale of power. It's the same with my exemple with Chie and Ai, they almost have sex in the karaoke room from the start and then it take like forever to develop their relationship.
As I understand this, I accept it. Of course the manga is way better after few chapters, yeah probably somewhere in the first chapters of 2nd volume. But I'm also glad the manga presented it-self the way it does.
Because the reader is available only fort a short time at the begining and "short time" do not goes with "profund and subtlety".
If the rythm was the same at the begining that it's today, if I'm being honest, I'm not sure I would have read very far, maybe, maybe not, because I discovered it by looking for a "panties and boobs manga", not a "imagine as much as you want but there is nothing to see here". And now it turns out that ONT is my absolute favorite manga, but not for what I was looking for in the first place. It's my favorite Since 3 years and I can't imagine any other take his place.
So, to conlcude, I think it's, yeah, a shame that it's so "direct" at the begining, but, is that such a shame ? I deal with it.
The problem is just when I talk this manga to someone ^^ I 'm like "it's great, just, you know, first chapters are not, how I put this, just keep reading, it's not what it's look like. Or maybe a little, just a little" I'm so uneasy to categorise this manga ^^
