I reread it a while back and it felt pretty obvious to me then. She had a clear fixation on Yoki in particular, like being willing to call in a threat to stop the fireworks from going off until Yoki was back, among other things.

I wonder if Yoki being able to tell the boy was Kikuri is related to her being resistant to some of the fringe science stuff. Like the shimenawa cordon (ch 13 pg 11) and liar liar (ch 26 pg 11). Raimon says those are both fringe sciences that work on the mind, but maybe Yoki has some 6th sense for souls or something? Idk guess we'll find out next month maybe hopefully.

I thought there were more examples, so I could see how one could forget about these or miss them.

TLer the word Kikuri said can mean basically anything in the realm of "we touched" but also to be revealed/found out/leaked/ and a gazillion other variations. Basically in character of her talking in the most vaguest way possible about everything. He had a back look through the magazine raws (I don't have the vol raws atm) to see if there was anything in the speech pattern to indicate.

It's never been specified, but at least the time Obitto has been in the Viv. She didn't know what a cat was and calls the university lot management (well "up there" but in a salary man up kind of way.) There's also lots of weird references to her being older. Most recently with this chapter is that Kikuri keeps her nipples in the magazine version, whereas Yoki (and Mikoto IIRC) only get theirs in the volume version. Make of that what you will considering they are all supposed to be in the same grade.

Tler and I had multiple back and forths on this b/c he thought it wasn't so obviously about Yoki. Also you're right about 21. When someone was storytiming this on /a/ there was confusion in the dialogue of 21, as it did for TLer. Kikuri/Mikoto talking past each other is pretty common even down to how they say/react to Yoki.

Seems like the obvious answer to Yoki being able to recognize Kikuri is that the fringe science body double didn't work on her just like Nagi's brainwashing plague doctor mask didn't, but there's also another, more prosaic explanation: Yoki knew something was fishy as soon as somebody showed up in the Vivarium claiming to be a transfer student, considering that she knows that there's not actually anywhere for somebody to transfer from and the last transfer student turned out to be a robotic simulacrum of a dead girl piloted by a pair of talking mice.

Her being older would fit with how she knew how to smoke a cigarette at the slumber party and how Yoki and Mikoto were marveling at how mature she looked, but good god, if this turns out to be foreshadowing I'll be... impressed? Slightly scared? Confused? Words fail me.

I'd be feelin' somethin', though.
