After reading some of the light novel, I can confirm that this is a hidden gem. The story detailed the work and life of a Vtuber with tons of funny moments and cute interactions. I especially like the numerous Japanese pop culture references featured in the conversations between Vtubers and chat (manga, anime, kamen rider, etc). I am looking forward to seeing how the upcoming chapters can capture the humour of this work.

I know it isn't much but I really appreciate you translating this series and hope for you to continue doing it. Best of luck to you!

review (me+friend I discussed this with)

not funny + shallow plot

im gonna go against the majority consensus and explain why i dont like this despite being:
  • a massive yuri fan
  • a massive cgdct fan
  • liking vtubers (just the clips, im not crazy yet)

I'll just say that this manga is probably HILARIOUS if you were Japanese and understood the humour and cultural context, but unlike monogatari who has other things to hold it up when the jokes fail, this is basically just joke after joke that never lands. They also tend to be overly sexual and mildly uncomfortable at times

The plot+story+characters just feels very forced and unrealistic, like NOONE acts like the mc, and NOONE can pull the "its Japanese humour" card on this because even hololivers dont act like this, it's like you took someone like... Marine? Luna? and bastardised her to the point of being just a boring cliche, its lacking the authenticity that people crave from actual streamers, though admittedly its not entirely the author's fault as its difficult to try to fully convey what makes streaming interesting

The basic premise is also really unsustainable, I like cute girls drinking but you can't build an entire story off that. Gonna strawman here, "but what about Kikuri from BTR" Kikuri is actually interesting as a character even without her drinking both because she has other sides to her personality (like the sober hyperfocused sigma girlboss kikuri), has hobbies outside of drinking (she's a bassist), and overall has interesting side character traits (is probably depressed and extremely attention seeking), look I watch/read cgdct religiously but its cute girls doing cute things, the girls have to be cute and the thing"s" here means they need to have more than 1 thing they do, here I'll give a few more examples:
  • Shimarin from Yuru Camp not only camps, she does it solo, away from the rest of the group, as a change of pace. She's also a librarian.
  • Shamiko from Machikado Mazoku might be a demon girl but she's also just a student, an older sister within a poor family, and a massive klutz
  • et cetera et cetera
So what's our dear mc?
Errr... horny alcoholic lesbian streamer? Thats it?

Overall I think the story is enjoyable if you find it enjoyable, but me and my friend just don't find it enjoyable, the jokes very rarely land, the plot is forced, and the mc has no other personality trait than drinking. Lwk feels like the author is held at gunpoint by some big publishing corpo to write something about vtubers

I'm just really hoping the story and characters will improve, maybe when the yuri stuff comes out it'll actually be interesting... as of now though, i stand by my choice of the characters being mid
