Watermarks on this manga made it really hard to read honestly if you have to ruin it this way don't bother translating it since it's difficult to read anyway

Saw the comments about watermarks, so I decided to check it out for myself. Figured they couldn't be as bad as I was hearing.

Man, oh man, they are terrible. Who thought this was a good idea? @Cookie_Revolution_Scans, my man, you guys should definitely try something else. 'Cause this is not great.

@Nami

Actually, readers of k*ssmanga etc thought they'd be a good idea according to their behavior. In the beginning we had no watermarks at all, followed by a tiny stamp on every ~3rd page available as a download version on our forum. We only had one condition: No re-uploads so that no one could enrich themselves on the manga and our work. Guess what? People were ungrateful cretins and ignored our only wish (we even tried that several times to give people the chance to change). So there you go. And, honestly, with the way users are saying foul things yet actually still keep on reading we feel even less inclined to go back to our old ways. The motto seems to be “Get stuff for free– whine about it.”

Those who buy the original manga can get our scanlation as a clean version. If you don't want to spend the money on something you claim to like, you shouldn't be surprised if manga gets axed early or not picked up in another region in my humble opinion. Scanlation is always a two-edged sword. Most people will not buy the manga even if it gets licensed if they can get it for free. Others claim they won't buy an official version if they don't know how the story will turn out and if they still like it then. So we give them an option to see what they'd get and an incentive to spend money on the official release. If you like the manga, just buy it to get the real deal. Either purchase the Japanese version and get our scans clean or wait for the official localization and get it then. There are enough people out there who enjoy our scanlation the way it is, and enough who actually do buy the Japanese versions as well to get the non-watermarked version. If you do not like our version, then simply don’t read it.

And for those claiming that they can’t read through the watermarks… I myself have access to all chapters unstamped. Yet I read them on here because I’m too lazy to search for them on my PC. So I know that you can read through them just fine. Anyone claiming the opposite either has optic problems or is lying and simply would prefer an image without a stamp. In both cases, that is not our responsibility and you could always buy the manga to get it stamp free…so *shrug*. Japanese manga are dirt cheap compared to the US versions and the like. So you'd even have a real bargain on your hands. With options like amazon, HMV, ebookjapan and CDJapan around, you can't say you don't know of any place where you could buy them. If you can treat yourself to sweets etc occasionally, you have money to spend on manga.

I see a lot of people on here who embrace internet anonymity a little too much by spouting hateful things. In fact most of them have already been trolling us back on batoto and have simply used this new forum to repeat the same hate speech for sh*t and giggles. So for most people this is not even about the stamps as much as the possibility to rage about something they feel entitled to yet aren't given.

If you don't agree with our sentiments, that's alright. I can respect people having another opinion than me. It just means the two parties involved should go on different ways and embrace the path they have chosen. In this case this means you should just ignore our releases if you cannot accept our way of handling things.

If you read this far, then thank you for your time and I wish you all the best.

@Cookie_Revolution_Scans I should be clear. I don't read this manga. I have no interest in reading this manga. So I'm getting nothing from your work for free or otherwise. I just dropped in here to read the full synopsis and the comments to get an idea about the manga before deciding it's probably not for me.

That said, you have no idea how appreciative I am of the people who do this work. There is definitely a lot of entitlement out there when it comes to this sort of thing and it's insufferably gross. This is a hobby or a way to improve certain skills for a lot of the people that do it and rarely does anyone get paid for it, so they can do it in whatever way they want to do it, massive watermarks included. That's all well and good. There isn't really any problem here until you start using all of this as an excuse to dodge any kind of criticism for the job you've done. You're as free to translate and alter the work as other people are to criticize you for how you did it. There's a big difference between someone being an entitled twat who demands you do things the way they want them done, versus simply giving constructive, civil criticism over your methods. It's actually a little hypocritical to assume you are entitled to zero criticism in your life's endeavors simply because someone didn't pay you money first.

Having said all this, I would personally still read through all the watermarks if I wanted to read this manga. They wouldn't absolutely ruin the manga for me or prevent me from reading it. But I also feel they detract and distract from the experience, I don't think they prevent re-uploads, and I have zero qualms with telling you so, because constructive criticism, like the work you do, is free.

@Nami I am open to constructive discussions which is also the reason I chose to answer you instead of others.
I'm also fine with people not liking our policy. It's just not something we're willing to change. We might reconsider the oppacity, placement, frequency or size of our stamps, should we find a way to stop re-uploads. Yet so far no one has offered us a solution to this. The stamps are in no way preventing re-uploads, but they're a consequence of said action. We have actually lowered the oppacity of the stamp for projects that weren't re-uploaded for a while.

The stamps are supposed to detract from the overall experience because unfortunately, most people would not purchase the original if they had access to a "perfect" free source. A normal tiny stamp in the corner just doesn't do the job as you can see within the community. They wouldn't buy the manga. Not even 1 out of 10 volumes. Publishers know that too and would often rather opt out of localizing manga with a good enough scanlation out there. We'd like to decrease the sales lost to scanlation while still giving people without the money to buy manga the opportunity to read them as well as encourage people to buy non-localized originals. Is our way of doing it the right one? Who knows. But we believe so. Continuously stating the same thing will not change our opinion. It's like a religious or political belief - just because you tell someone a thousand times that their way of doing things/thinking is messed up, you won't change them. I'd really like it if people accepted that and moved on if they can't deal with it.

So far, we have only received one constructive suggestion which we have implemented right away, namely putting the typeset layers over the stamp to increase readability. We can work with that. But simply telling us over and over again that our stamps "suck" and whatnot changes nothing and actually makes us more unwilling to look into solutions everyone can be happy with. And most of the people who have "criticized" (if you want to call it that) us on here have already given the same hate speech back on batoto, so this is not about adding new feedback to be constructive but to insult us. Heck, they have, at times, even harassed readers who have stated their support of us in the open. That really opened my eyes about how to rate their so called "critique".

Thank you for admitting that you could read through the watermarks if the manga interested you enough. I appreciate that honesty. And thank you for trying to be constructive about this rather than just joining the rows of people merely out for a fight.

@JennieGucci Hopefully soon. A typesetter has finally found the time to work on it. It could have been finished ages ago as it was cleaned and translated but no one had time to typeset it and no one else joined to help out, so meh... I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be done soon. Sorry for the delay!
