I'll pick this back up when volume 4 drops. It'll probably take a few more months so I don't mind if someone takes over using mag scans or whatever.

Wow, thank you for releasing so many chapters at once, I don't know how I'd keep up with the suspense if this was a weekly or monthly.

Honestly this is all senpais fault, who the fuck trusts strange freaky aliens from another world?

the black pages are probably there just to make sure everyone understands that she's 100% gone and there won't be a catch to it.
Seems like we're going for quite a depressing ending, poor Aimi isn't going to get a pay-off for jumping into the mouth of a interplanetary devil's mouth and fighting off a dozen of disfigurated bodies with alien parasites.

So that's... senpai's ghost? Because her body is completely taken over, right? It must take a lot of willpower to stay around despite having gotten separated. Flare's sister is a young kid so she's especially durable, but in senpai's case, it's a testament to her strength. Or that's how I feel.
Aimi left the alien rock to Oka, then...? I wonder if she will be the one to slay the beast...

Flare's situation might in fact be FUBAR, but one should have some doubt that the mangaka would doom a character who has played the rôle that she has.

Whatever the intention of the black pages, they convey no more than mood.

Right now, what we have is Flare's being told by a hostile alien that she were torn in two, and her apparent memory of that event. The apparent memory is the datum of greatest concern.

But consider Flare's explanation of Tamura-kun's situation in the final panel of page 123 in chapter 6 of volume 1:
However, the consciousness is a body made of energy — It seems that it'll get weaker if it's separated too long from the body, making it difficult for it to maintain itself.
Tamura-kun was separated from his body after Flare's supposed death, yet his spirit was dissolving and hers has not been. Something is different about her situation.

Personally, I'd like not only for Flare to have a happy outcome, but for her senpai to have one as well. That girl was without malice; she was simply too trusting. And, when she saw that her body was about to be used as a passage by the aliens, she cried for her own destruction (page 176 in chapter 8 of volume 1). But the senpai is probably doomed; and, in that context, it is less likely that Flare is also doomed. (That would be four sacrifices from six characters, not counting Flare's dead parents.)

It may be because she actually died in the other world that her spirit has hung on for so long. The other world is clearly some sort of liminal space between the living world and the dead, where the living and the dead are equally real and material. Unlike on Earth, you don't go anywhere when you die. Everyone else who was a spirit in the other world was that way because their body was infected by the snakes, creating a portal between the Earth and the other world, forcing their spirit out of their body and, since you can't exist as just a spirit on Earth, also forcing their spirit into the other world until their body was destroyed. Flare's situation is totally different.

Happy ending for Flare has more to do with saving her sister than anything; I think she can still go to Earth's afterlife if she just walks through the portal, but she's not going to do that without making her sister whole again.
