But I remembered now. My theory is Hayasaka actually liked MC from the beginning. She watched their soccer practice for him, not the senpai. But when MC asked if she liked senpai, plus she knew MC liked Tachibana, she had to say MC is second.

So, the letter guy is probably right.

Edit: Btw, why are the chapters often ends with cliffhanger but no continuation in the next chapter? Is there no part 3?

I forgot about this, I actually liked the premise quite a bit and I'm glad it continued

I’m at the point of “why in the flying F won’t you just date her openly?!”

I mean you spend(t) more time with Hayasaka. Neither one of you confessed your feelings to the Number1 but confessed your feelings to each other. You do more relationship-like things with each other.

At this point, the Backup System is coming off as being made for Kirishima’s selfish benefit. There is no way unless he is SUPER DUPER ELITLY DENSE that after what Yamanaka said, what his friend said AND the things Hayasaka has been doing recently that he(Kirishima) doesn’t realize that he became Hayasaka’s Number 1.

If people are honest with themselves. There are compromises made by both sides when starting a relationship. You don't have to believe that someone is literally the cutest/handsome person in the world to go out with them.
If it works out the other person will gradually become more important to you from shared experiences and responsibilities. If they don't then you break-up and try again with someone else.

The manga guy is right, though, and very attentive at that—if what he said is true.

Hayasaka might just be lying to the MC about liking Yanagi. In truth, she probably likes the MC and he’s her first choice, but after finding out that the MC likes someone else, she went along with his backup couple plan just to give herself a reason to be close to him.

Well, human psychology is weird. Just because someone doesn't want to lose their current status and situation, they will do something even more unimaginable, taking all the wrong steps to stay in status quo out of something so easily resolved. I've seen a lot of examples, including myself... So I understand quite a bit about holding tight the status quo, afraid of change and future...
