this needs an 鬼ごっこ -> tag explanation note, cuz otherwise all the jokes are lost

basically 鬼ごっこ　where 鬼　means demon/ogre and ごっこ means playing/make believe (so pretending to be a demon/ogre) is the japanese version of playing tag. So what theyre doing is pretending to be an 鬼 (oni). hence the jokes about how the mom is the real oni. and how because the oni found her the game of tag is over... because the person who is "it" in english is the oni in japanese.
