To be fair, Hinako had no idea about anything Miko did. Only we the readers do.I know it's wrong. But part of me wants to say: "Is that it?"
Yeah, she was evil, monstrous, and/or sadistic , but goodness gracious, I'm pretty sure that goes for almost all yokai, demons, evil spirits, etc, in that world. If anything, the fact that Miko is the way she is and actually tried to change her ways deserves the upmost praise imo. (yeah, I'm bias because I like Miko, she's my favorite character here). Especially since it's such a rarity.
Hopefully if Hinako's upset it'll be more because:
"You're telling me that you could've killed me way back and spared me all the heartache and suffering, and yet you didn't. You're so cruel!"
Instead of : "I can't believe you killed people so horrifically.".
Thanks for this.
While that's true, Hinako has seen her fair share of yokai and nearly all of them were monstrous ravenous beings who (with the exception of Miko and Shiori) wanted to devour her, and if I remember right, Shiori and Miko both confirmed to Hinako that Miko devoured humans (the only thing that she lacked was the details of the action). Anyway, I'm just hoping we don't go through an arc of Hinako feeling betrayed by Miko, simply because she learned the details of how she devoured humans. To be fair, Hinako had no idea about anything Miko did. Only we the readers do.
That's not wrong at all. This is frustrating because Miko should just blow off that stupid racoon and tell it to stop living in the past.I know it's wrong. But part of me wants to say: "Is that it?"
Or as I wrote in a previous chapter, what about Humanity (which is what all these legends are reflective of anyway IRL of course)? The Japanese themselves were absolute monsters in some of their fairly recent history. If you went back through Hinako's family tree it'd be completely unsurprising if there was someone who participated in the Rape of Nanking or some other horror from the wars, or farther back into the Restoration period or warring states. Or same in every single other country on the planet. We have a bloody history. What counts the most is how we've worked on that, and how we continue to struggle with that because it's not easy and the potential for backsliding is always there.Yeah, she was evil, monstrous, and/or sadistic , but goodness gracious, I'm pretty sure that goes for almost all yokai, demons, evil spirits, etc, in that world.
In some small way Miko is just Japanese history itself given form. While there are certainly still other flaws and challenges and lingering old skeletons in old closets, there is plenty to admire in their path from 1800s/first half of 1900s until today. If anything, the fact that Miko is the way she is and actually tried to change her ways deserves the upmost praise imo. (yeah, I'm bias because I like Miko, she's my favorite character here). Especially since it's such a rarity.
