I'd say it's better this way. If her deep mental instability was congenital, triggered by no external factors, I'm not sure the dude would care to get involved too much with her. However, since it's PTSD related, it's much easier for him. In fact he seems to feel a little bit responsible considering he happened to be right there. That being said, she might have inherited susceptibility from her father, assuming mental health issues contributed to the murder.I think the added drama of the murderous father, dead mother, and dying 'real' personality, is a bit much - this set up would have worked with just the idea that he needed to win over the other personalities before their relationship was okayed.

For sure, I’m going to assume the main personality is going to find out about this deal and assume it’s another betrayal to her after she begins to develop some feelings. In the end though I just feel the word “betrayal” is key unless this turns out to be a fluffy and nice manga.This is gonna hurt one of them in the end huh..
