I mean, some are - as they are everywhere. Author herself is a childhood sexual abuse survivor after all. ("1993 Japan allowed for some fucked-up ways to 'joke' about abuse," though, is absolutely an observation to be made, and is quite possibly why Uchida included the anecdote.)

The one criticism I have of this manga is that around 30 pages per chapter with 2 4koma each page makes for some pretty brutal pacing. The small scans really don't help. Still, it's a good read. It really helps when your writer seems like a fascinating person in their own right.

Yeah, the transfer of the 30-year-old comic to digital is not the best (plus I'm basically limited to grabbing images off of kindle). Then the strips being jam-packed full of crammed handwritten text sort of tests my very limited image manipulation skills, which does slow me down a bit.
