Hm, so far this is pretty interesting, particularly with a protagonist that’s only 8 — that’s quite young in the grand scheme of things. There’s a lot of questions too, especially regarding the main point of Angel falling unconscious and waking up with a different gender.
What’s particularly interesting about it is that only they seem to have changed. It’s the same world, only they’re a girl. At first I thought that maybe it was because Angel was out for a long time, but they fall unconscious on August 14th, wake up some time after, and then start school on the 31st (which… huh, that’s also today’s date).
Two weeks alone isn’t enough time to explain that, especially since Angel’s mom states that they’re moving ‘next weekend’, and not ‘this weekend’, so it could only have been a few days at most. That’s a mystery to think about then…
There’s certainly some heavy themes here too — definitely felt an element of gender dysphoria reading this. It’s a unique situation, but it has that theme running through. In particular, the way Angel struggles to cope with it stands out, particularly with cutting their hair to change appearance.
I also really liked that panel where you can see Angel’s father getting agitated about Angel’s insistence on their name, and I find it notable that their mother is a bit more accepting with it, as well as being the one who takes them for the haircut they wanted. Part of me is curious to see how Angel’s relationship with their parents will change over time.
The main thing I wonder is how Angel will move forward with this change, because it seems like it could go either way — they clearly want to find out how and why this happened to them, and how to revert it, but it also seems like they might be capable of accepting this change and living with it, so I wonder which path they’ll go down. If nothing else, at least they’ve got a friend now, so that’s something.
Overall, I’m pretty intrigued by this, and I look forward to seeing how things will change in Angel’s life from this point.
