So, the story’s going from one holiday to another then. It’s great to see Jenni and Angel’s friendship develop some more — it’s rather heartwarming to see they’ve gotten close enough over just a few months to have a sleepover. A shame about Nick though…
It’s kinda adorable to see how nervous Angel is about wearing a dress, but it is their first one, so I can definitely understand it. Something interesting was their mother’s reaction to it, as she seems to be aware that Angel doesn’t usually wear clothing like this. Another interesting thing is that on the bottom left panel of page 4, she seems to be talking to Jenni’s mother about Angel — I think the implication is that she’s struggling to deal with Angel’s ‘phase’?
One thing I really liked here was how perceptive Jenni is when it comes to Angel — it’s really cool how quickly she susses out the truth behind Angel’s nervousness, and her reaction to it is great as well. Sure, she thinks it’s a bit weird that Angel doesn’t have any dresses, but she doesn’t treat Angel like they’re a freak as Angel feared, and she’s instead happy she could give something new to them.
Although… I have to wonder now — was Angel not having any dresses always a thing in this world? Because, her parents act as if Angel’s changes since the incident are new, so I imagine the Angel of this world would have had dresses beforehand… maybe Angel threw them all out over time?
And speaking of mysteries, that bit near the end raises loads of questions. First off, seems like those things were eggs and they are indeed starting to hatch, but second… it seems like Angel zoned out, and in that space, they’re a boy again? At least, that’s what I took from their hair changing. Is the male part of them trapped in this world or something? It’s really making me wonder…
