A commenter in an earlier chapter mentioned how they thought the ideologies in the story related to China’s history of Marxism, and I honestly agreed with them. At the very least, the prince saying they should focus on economic emancipation because it can take centuries for people to budge on cultural issues was clearly the author writing a real-world perspective into the story (even if she doesn’t write the prince as correct).

With that in mind, it definitely feels as if the author is focused on the subtext and doesn’t realize the surface level reading is “lesbian radical traumatizes teenager for political goals”

I like this pairing, but I can't get over the ick of it possibly coming from such a fucked up event being the cause of it. A character almost getting SAed and/or killed leading to love leaves a sour taste, especially when it was all but perfectly planned for some political BS.
