Regardless of the reason, I don't hate it. It doesn't interfere with the reading of the translated text, and I also appreciate it as someone who gets his Japanese knowledge largely opportunistically (it's almost like looking at the original text and the translated text side-by-side).

...that, and I just can't be mad in the first place when I'm dealing with a manga depicting the best sub-genre of age gap romance.

That's actually one of the real reasons. The other is making it easier to spot mistakes, which by the way applies to myself as well when I translate. I've caught some errors as I was proofreading the final pages this way because the original text is visible under it and people do sometimes make the dumbest mistakes. In another title before I did this I once translated “美味しい” to “beautiful”. Obviously I somehow misread as “美しい” and I immediately noticed it when I read it again but people make these kinds of mistakes.

I know sometimes when I read translations I'm actually immensely curious what the original lines were at times. I did try to find the right balance with making the white shadow under the text bright enough that it does not impede reading the translation, but also makes it possible to read the original text under it for those that want to.

It might be hard for people with eyesight problems yes, I didn't much consider that.
Other things I didn't consider is that it's apparently very hard to read for people who aren't fluent in English and are only learning it in the sense of that I use a lot of unfinished sentences and slang.
