What are they talking about at the start of the chapter with regards to "Qin Yu" entering spirit realm and not being able to restore her core? Didn't this literally already happen? Judging by the next chapter this was meant to be about Yuan Yi's mother instead, but the wording is kinda awkward here.

You are correct! The conversation about repairing the damaged core is indeed in the context of yuan Yi's mother, not qin Yu (that was my mistake missing this) I've updated the impacted panels to be a bit more clear about this. Thanks!
