It's probably the fact that we have been told a few times "AMMA FIGHT LIKE I WANNA KILL YOU!" and that didn't happen. Or the fact that the foreshadowing has been spread too thin over too many chapters, in fact i believe the whole "i want to be as strong as him" was there almost from the beginning.

the "but I'm trained by aniki" and the "idiot! you didn't only learn from him" bubbles on page 13 should be swapped

I feel like the only path for Reus to experience real growth from now on would be to leave the party and seek his own challenges, adventures, and opportunities. Half a dozen years later, assuming he went through enough hardship and enlightement, he might surprise Sirius for real.
