I don’t think her mother meant it in a bad way, perhaps badly communicated.Aw, man, I was crying for Anjou there. She knows she ain't no genius, but to have your dreams laughed at is so crushing.
I'm not sure if her mother's refusal to hire her is cold-hearted or hard love--trying to push her out of her comfort zone, to grow elsewhere, rather than staying somewhere safe. Hopefully the latter.
Seto's got enough brains for the two of them--she provides the light in his life, the joie de vivre that he so desperately needs.
