Literally went back to this chapter to bitch about the stupid half vampire plot point. I'm so glad the other commenters feel the same. Currently on 117 and honestly this single plot point has really soiled an otherwise great story for me. I'm continuing to trudge through mostly because the art is amazing and I hope this gets resolved at some point soon. Hopefully by just having him go full vampire, but maybe the author (or editor/publisher) is too chickenshit to make the story that "dark". Part of me is pessimistically waiting for the typical anime cliche of him and his friends all hold hands and go back to school together in the end for one reason or another.

A bunch of fools who read tired garbage are complaining about the ambiguity of emotions (a major theme throughout the work) being repeated as the parameters for half-vampirization. I mean vampirization is an ontology that is explored throughout the manga with various open-ended questions to explore the existential similarities between human and vampire. Is it an asspull if it follows the same thematic flow of an emotionally stunted teen coming to terms with why they can't fulfill the emotional contract yet in a moment of unusual emotional intensity, meeting criteria? I mean by standards of a deus ex machina it's pretty mild. Because this is the entire point of the manga, his vampirism. So how can it be unexpected or contrived if he's still ambiguous in his own nature but constantly growing in affection to Nazuna? We've been seeing this plot the entire time. I'm just saying above me looks like a circle jerk of buzzwords without any real critical thinking as to how this can be the case. I mean I don't know how this doesn't maintain a narrative consistency (albeit tonally shifted later on). Like y'all just want the manga to end? Because the major conflict will be resolved with him becoming a vampire. And his half vampirism opens some intriguing displays of his emotional shifting later on. Like if he just became a vampire as he was, where would the development be.

the nearly-become vampire thing does feel a little bit forced with the way it is explained. But I think that it is a pretty good idea, it just need a little more solid foundation and time to build up. There has been a lot of plot holes and inconsistency throughout the story i really hopes it won't be happening again to this.

I agree it is an interesting concept and immediately related to important themes, but solely that doesn't make it a well-done progression thus far in my opinion.

We have had a lot of talking with other vampires, been actually present in the timeline for the vampirization of one guy, and yet this is supposedly complete news.

Everyone has fluctuating emotions to a degree; Kou isn't somehow special in this regard. Even if they weren't knowledgeable on it the way the detective is, many if not all vampires should be at least vaguely familiar with these effects since it directly concerns the way their body functions in various ways. Even presuming that the "memory wipe" lands on the time of "full vampirization", we have still been there with Akkun who has been undergoing this whole process during the story.

"If it was like this, wouldn't we have heard or known of this in at least some manner already" - makes it a bit difficult to immediately stomach, a bit like the weaknesses back then.

At least I'll give it to the author that Kou's physicality changing has been teased about with various degrees of subtlety for a long time already and on many occasions, so no surprises there.

In any case, like another commenter says, time to let the author cook for now and see what comes out of it
