Yeah, it sorta feels like the attempted rape scene. The author wants Ren to be vulnerable enough for her to be in a pinch, but also wants her to be incredibly skilled in swords and magic and have trained wolves and also a robot exoskeleton. There’s no easy way to have their cake and eat it too.

This not something specific with this story but I really hate when this line is used, because at best it is hypocritical and at worse it is moronic, in this case it is moronically hypocritical.
Oh, no the Goblin Lord hurt your friends such a tragedy. I mean you just invaded their "city/village" and genocide his subjects, some which could have been friends and family to the Goblin Lord, by your own choice but let's all forget about how if it was between humans here you would be the aggressor and focus on how your friends got hurt while killing every goblin that come into your view through underhanded and coward means.

Yeah, I get it and I have no sympathy to wast on goblins of all things but it still annoys me when character think like that or when they are trying to kill someone but then get afraid/angry because the tables turned and they are about to be killed instead.
