That's just how the story has been going. Captain is the focus of the chapter. Talks about their worries, insecurities, and how they want to be of use for their childhood friend, the one guy holding the entire group together. They look at our MC and feel inadequate. MC has a heart to heart with them after, he says or does something he feels is insignificant, and the captain he's speaking with draws a renewed source of inspiration from it. One that changes their outlook on life, and abilities on the battlefield.

It 5he way the story is formatted, we get a chapter of the mc point of view working with/helping someone then the next chapter are the same events from the character he was working with/helping
A lot of redundant sc3nes in the second chapter of an arc with this format

We rarely get those in this series, even in the mostly serious arcs
