Just checked, holy shit it is ongoing. Thank god we're still eating good Bakibest baki-related manga running recently
Retsu Isekai is extremely fun and I love it but this one definitely is closer to the spirit and highs of the originalbest baki-related manga running recently
the problem with Retsu's isekai (it is my 2nd favourite) is that it's a series entirely dedicated to making him look cool. It's fun, but there're very little at stake, and the powerlevel is so insane since Retsu has basically evolved past Pickle.Retsu Isekai is extremely fun and I love it but this one definitely is closer to the spirit and highs of the original
He is Mongolian and was an in the main series a important character in the childhood saga.Ah yes, a Russian named Yuri
Aaaaaaah you can see the fucking rib, motherfucker
Oh, I agree absolutely, but my only fear regarding this series though is that this is set waaaaaaaaaay before the Convict Saga and Yanagi canonically is still searching for defeat during it so I think this might be a foregone conclusion that we either won't have the revenge match that Mumon wants or he won't win.the problem with Retsu's isekai (it is my 2nd favourite) is that it's a series entirely dedicated to making him look cool. In contrast, this series puts Yanagi at the top of the narrative, making it probably even more grounded than the original Baki. Mumon keeps getting humbled while still visibly improving is much more of a hook. Taizan's death is top 3 in the verse imo, beautiful.
Then again Yanagi was shown to be a petty asshole in the Convict saga, so he could already have gotten styled on by Mumon but Yanagi dismisses that defeat by blaming lag or a bad controller or something.Oh, I agree absolutely, but my only fear regarding this series though is that this is set waaaaaaaaaay before the Convict Saga and Yanagi canonically is still searching for defeat during it so I think this might be a foregone conclusion that we either won't have the revenge match that Mumon wants or he won't win.
This series is about how Yanagi was captured the first time, and it probably will be about how Mumon captured him. As you said, however, he got out again hence the convict arc, so whatever Mumon did couldn't have damaged him all that much and he might've even died doing it like his mentor. Pure speculation, of course.Oh, I agree absolutely, but my only fear regarding this series though is that this is set waaaaaaaaaay before the Convict Saga and Yanagi canonically is still searching for defeat during it so I think this might be a foregone conclusion that we either won't have the revenge match that Mumon wants or he won't win.

As good as the spinoff is, it's a little dodgy in terms of canon. It includes a few Garouden characters (as in from the novels) and has another tie in that's coming up next volume. A lot of stuff in this requires forgetting about canon to fully enjoy it, which isn't ideal, but it's still a great spinoff that does a lot of fun things with the characters it borrows. Then again Yanagi was shown to be a petty asshole in the Convict saga, so he could already have gotten styled on by Mumon but Yanagi dismisses that defeat by blaming lag or a bad controller or something.
I think it's pretty good, but tbh, the main character is just a bit too much "Baki 2.0" to me, at least design wise. And Kozues dad was awesome but I think they tried a bit too hard connecting it to the main series by having a guy like him be her dad lolAs good as the spinoff is, it's a little dodgy in terms of canon. They did state in grappler that Kozue's father was a fighter iirc, so this is building off of that. Yanagi is definitely the highlight of the series, seeing him in his prime is both terrifying and captivating. I much prefer him here to in the convicts arc.I think it's pretty good, but tbh, the main character is just a bit too much "Baki 2.0" to me, at least design wise. But I love Yanagis portrayal here. Imagine a guy with an attitude and that nasty Fist of the North Star martial art like his running around in real life amongst normal people, it would be like a horror movie
