Just why...? I would have understood if quality is better but it's much worse

Since when did colds include collapsing as a symptom?! This must be the dreaded Japanese cold I've been hearing a lot about.

This is certainly something else, a "romcom" featuring a broken boy and a main girl who's the painful kind of tsundere with a penchant for shooting herself in the foot. Aika, please. Or maybe both of them should try to get their act together, some character development certainly wouldn't hurt...

Yup, must be the dreaded mango flu. Always as deadly as it is inconsequential, every time. Thinking of it, has it ever ended up being something more serious, with actually lasting consequences past what it did to cudgel a story in one direction or another?

That aside, what character development? I've seen you mention it during the run of this story, but character development isn't just a magical machine that turns main characters into heroic main characters. I know it isn't what you mean and sorry for this bit of snark despite it, but the main character waking up from his denial and pest routine and getting slowly ground down during this story is character development. Just not traditional personal growth. Monkey paws curling and all that.

To get the sort of character development you more likely meant, a character would mainly need a goal (personal or an imposed one), scope and a motivating force towards it. That's how you spin a positive growth through a narrative journey, 101. This story pretty much started by him getting disillusioned from his set goal and all of the external motivating force past his self imposed one counteracting the external being negative. It feels like he's getting mired, because he kind of is (unless the story just asspulls everything around him to just be fine again, which I'm fearing it will).
