OK... she really did live during WW I.
Not quite - November 1918 was the end of hostilities in Europe and the de facto end of WWI. However, the Japanese occupation of Korea extended from 1910 to 1945, and on a larger scale you could probably make an argument that the entire period from the Meiji Restoration to the end of WWII was one long series of actions toward the goal of Pacific dominance.

You could be even more auspicious, her born meant the Dictatorship of Primo the Rivera in Spain (1923-1930) and as she came to age even at a worse turn for Spain, but that would be a script for some fake documentary on a late night show with low audience. More cheerfully you could say that she was born to listen to the golden era of Swing, in Japan people also wore some fashionable clothes during the Taishô era, so she could had been the Empress of Lindy Hop and afterwords Mambo. Okay, enough derailing from my part.
