here's my prediction/guess: he's dating therapy girl currently because he's the avatar of being passive, but after getting back in contact with first girl and having conversations, realises he actually has feelings for her - breaking up with therapy girl to embrace his actual romantic feelings would be the first time he makes a choice for himself, they start dating, all three remain friends, the ghost gets somekind of closure, and the series ends

in saying that though, i'm not confident it'll play out this way
also at the current pacing this would mean we'd have at least another x700 chapters

We see MC clearly getting along and developing feelings for Miharu and then out of fucking nowhere he goes out with someone else while seemingly forgetting Miharu's existence?
I'd have been fine with him ending up with someone else if there was some actual development that hinted towards that but having a "wanna date?" / "yeah ok" situation sucks.

I know he's prone to just go along with anyone being remotely nice to him because of his lack of social interaction but still, not a fan at all and it just kinda shits on the previous 280+ chapters (if you can call them that lol)

statistics in this case are self reported. i have worked in japan. didnt notice anything really. but people who are there longer term keep noticing how it feels like a hospital in terms of hanky panky where its immoral (which is a bold claim). they also moan about how they can only date other westerners. you can find this sentiment on cheating on english teaching forums and sometimes tabloid news runs with it. the jokethat prostitutes arent considered 100% cheating in japan you see sometimes is for real to an extent.
