lol even the ghost is sweaty. tho 'third wheel' stuff aside, i'm sure ppl can hang out platonically as a group because he's as awkward as ever and they're not gonna start with like making out/sitting in each others' laps in her presence (which i can't imagine would be too common in Japan outside of like maybe a bar b/c that'd draw a lot more attention in a place like Japan than here)

The metaphors are perhaps not immediately available to native English speakers. These are not natural idioms to an English speaker. I get the implied meaning, but not the sociocultural context.

Afaik she's just speaking in prose. You may be right that it's referencing something, I wouldn't know it though. I just translated it literally.
