Honestly I'm pretty disappointed. I realize this isn't an especially serious series, but I was expecting at least some stress from the reveal.

Like subverting a seemingly serious cliffhanger into a joke can be funny if you do it once, but that's what this series does literally every time. It's played out.

If a comedy series is never willing to be serious ever but repeatedly pretends like it will, it doesn't come across as the author trying to be funny, it comes across as the author wanting to write something serious but backing out at the last moment because they are insecure of their own ability to write a serious moment.

Well, more like she didn't had (see?) any other option if she wanted to stick around her gang. And, to be honest (and considering the possibility of some nuances being lost in translation), Youki might have just been trying to justify the idea in his head. Just a speculation on my part, but it would be kind of in tone with the whole manga.
