Here's the thing.
You're young, you're in college/university/whatever. You meet someone, fall in love with them. They suggest eloping, leaving the life you knew until now behind. Your parents have their issues (tbf kinda get the parents views since a random person just asked to marry their daughter and has basically zero plans...dad def needs some therapy though) but you still care for them and you're looking forward to finishing college. And someone wants you to leave all that and has a hissy fit when you say you want to wait a bit. This isn't romance as much as an episode you'd see on Dr Phil or something. The characters in Wuthering Heights are less ridiculous than these idiots.
