Well, we already have a Sosou Gentoku, who's name already sounds suspiciously close to Soso Motoku (Cao Cao's Japanese name), so why not add Ya Boy Kongming to the mix?

Well, we already have a Sosou Gentoku, who's name already sounds suspiciously close to Soso Motoku (Cao Cao's Japanese name), so why not add Ya Boy Kongming to the mix?

IMO bit of a mix, since IIRC Gentoku (Xuande) is Liu Bei’s courtesy name. FYI Motoku (Cao Cao’s courtesy name) translates to Mengde, and the way courtesy names work is by replacing their given name, so it would be Cao Mengde (So Motoku) and Liu Xuande (Ryu Gentoku).

Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't aware of Liu Bei's name Xuande being Gentoku in Japanese. The fact that they used their courtesy names and add to that the translation to Japanese naming, it makes it all that harder to keep track of who is who.

I credit Dynasty Warriors for teaching me the JP versions of their courtesy names. It’s part of the lines for most character, so after hearing Guan Yu said “I’ve defeated an officer” in JP for so long, you’d realize that since you know Kanu is Guan Yu (eg: from mangas, anime, or general dicking around in the internet/wikis), Kan Unchou/Unchō just means himself, Guan Yunchang.
