Tbh, this whole Eliza emperor and Eliza maid confused me to a level I didn't think was possible
So, like, is she acting as a "bad" ruler so that she can leave the throne to the branch family? Can't she just marry MC as the emperor?

I think the reason is twofold. For one i think she wants to give the people a scapegoat, someone they can blame for their problems. Should probably be the last emperor, but ok. Secondly she doesn't seem to want to be emperor. She might be planning this as an out to herself, fake her death or something further down the road and install her planned successor after she has cleaned up stuff.

She’s taking all the blame so she can stop the dissatisfaction with the imperial family and end it with her by taking the blame and passing on the succession to a branch family

I think she is just abdicating or whatever it is called when giving up the throne to next in succession or smth
