Since this is supposed to be middle of tokyo (right?) seeing just mushrooms would be odd, maybe there's some new species that can break down large metal and stone constructs at rapid pace...

Also you say if humans don't interfere but it's not like humans died out or nothing right, maybe the lived in areas have some preserved larger buildings.
