Ryo isn't stupid; she's an autistic savant, brilliant in one area (musical composition, arrangement, and performance and history) while just kind of floating along with ephemeral understanding in other areas. Forgetting one domain of knowledge so she can concentrate on another is common, with a consistent drift to the specialization. Another classic indicator is that she is simply unable or disinclined to learn in usual ways. I'm puzzled as to why she's described as stupid.

Does anything else about her indicate that she's autistic? She's also not a savant-level bassist, she's just talented. She's described as stupid because she's stupid. She only has enough room in her brain for one thing at a time. Much like Yui from K-On!, she's simply an airhead, a ditz. Actually I'd argue that of the two, Yui is far more likely to be autistic because she does display an unnaturally good ability to identify tones, and she's not a character I think is autistic. Ryo's certainly not written to have autism. There's no reason to read so much into her. If she were a real person with real person complexity, there'd be more to dig into, but she's not.

Why is it that any time an anime character is written to be socially awkward, quirky, or (in Ryo's case) possessing poor academic studying habits, people's first reaction is to say they're autistic? I'm not badmouthing the people that do this, but it's just been a trend I've really noticed pick up in the last few years. Adachi from Adachi to Shimamura? Autistic. Kanon from The Moon on a Rainy Night? Autistic. Marcille from Delicious in Dungeon? Autistic. Both mcs from There's No Way I Could Date My Fave? Autistic.

Absolutely nice chapter why is not in the anime, maybe they need to rush for only 12 eps...
