The start of the game already had the rule the blood warriors' only role is to protect the Yang brothers. Yang Kai somehow managed to stretch it to extend to protecting the flag. And it only got more stretchy, like a bubblegum, after that.
It's rather shortsighted the elders even thought about the limit to two before the war was launched, but decided not to mention it out of arrogance.
This is the problem with overconfidence, you neglect litigious diligence and end with a mess like this.
