He's casually/jokingly addressing the head of the family he was just openly conspiring against as if that weren't grounds for immediate retaliation. Made me take the story a little less seriously.

Right? Like he's doing them a favor. They're doing him a favor by not having him arrested on the spot and implicating all the involved families.
