Exactly, adding more girls slows down any romantic devlopments and reduce the screen time for each girls. As a result they all appear more 1 dimensional.

Also I personally dislike characters like Sumika meek and fake plain who exist solely to bait protective instincts from readers and MC.

Honestly I'm kinda cheering for Sumika the other 3 girls are kinda assholes and clearly the mom of the MC too. Sumika is just there chilling actually being nice to the MC while the others have a battle royale also if you look at their interactions you can clearly see that the main character enjoys spending time with Sumika he just sees the other girls as vengeance and competition objectives
