Its not popular to us since we cant read japanese and no translator took interest on this story so its understandable to be surprised that this feels like it came out of nowhere.
Haven't read the raws or such but the story is definitely going to be about how the hero returned to their original world and that nobody actually killed the hero. Its actually pretty interesting how this manga focuses on what happens after the hero defeats the demon lord and gets his wish to return back. But maybe im wrong and that the hero really did get killed.

It seems based off the first chapter that the hero was a commoner from the world this takes place in. I guess he could be a reincarnation isekai but it doesn't seem like have any evidence for that yet.
i know i gonna die alone but not them ahhhh. This hurts my feeling so bad that i wanna cry. i remmember a oneshot like this where is only one people left in the hero team and he has to stay strong to go back to his hometown

The LN has been translated and released. I read it on Kindle. Its quite a nice change from the usual. It reminded me of how World War Z was written. Its after the events and the mysterious interviewer is going around asking questions. But there are also flashback sort of fragments which might be rememberances or told as they occured. There's a lot of "unreliable narrator" stuff going on too so you have to read between the lines or pick up on people just exaggerating or even lying. Its a good story!
